Joining theFUTURISTS

theFUTURISTS is a collective of young, talented, and ambitious artists, writers, photographers, film makers, and designers. We are always looking to add more great people to our team.

What We Can Offer You

Freedom

Do what you want to do, how you want to do it, and cover what interests you. You won’t be pigeonholed into doing any one thing for us—say, only writing about music—unless that’s what you want, and you won’t have your unique voice edited away.  And even with all that independence, you’re not in it alone: editors and the rest of our are always there to collaborate, share ideas, and help.

Exposure

theFUTURISTS has become an alternative media force to be reckoned with. We’re one of Vancouver’s most popular (and, we think, best) nightlife blog of its kind in the country, and all sorts of cool people—local celebrities, newspaper and magazine writers and editors, politicians, musicians, bloggers, photographers, designers, whoevers—read us every day. Better still, we’re respected and trusted.

Excitement

theFUTURISTS, just like Vancouver, It’s always changing, it’s always growing, and it’s always turning its eyes to something new. We’re often the first to know when something is about to happen in the city, and we’re often the first to cover it. And we’ve got a reputation—for being smart, for being funny, and for being good. Who wouldn’t want to be part of that?

Community

One of the greatest benefits of becoming a FUTURIST contributor is being part of a bigger collective of creative individuals. We’re young, restless, and have more ideas than we know what to do with. theFUTURISTS was created as a platform to showcase our work, and to share our love for Vancouver and the wild times we have at night. We all share the same goal – to pursue our creative passions, share our work and our love for vancouver.

Money

We can’t pay very much, but we do pay a bit—enough to cover a weekend of fun. More seriously, it is important that you know that we’re committed to increasing pay as the site grows, and that every cent theFUTURISTS makes goes right back into the site.

What We Are Looking For In A Contributor

Talent

You’re really good at what you do, and you understand that quality always trumps quantity. You have your ear to the ground and know when interesting stuff is happening in Vanouver. You make mistakes rarely, and learn from them if and when you do. You learn quickly, and you can write or photograph or illustrate (or whatever it is you do) under a deadline without being sloppy.

Commitment

You’ll contribute at the very least once every other week, and when you say you’ll do something, you’ll do it.

Enthusiasm

You really, really, really, really care about Vancouver, and you really, really, really, really want to work for us. You follow theFUTURISTS regularly and know how we do things, but you’re also eager to add your voice to the site and help make us even better.

What we want to know when you apply

A Bit About Yourself

We want to know about you, so tell us—who you are, what you do, what you’ve done, and what you’re interested in. (No résumés, please.)

A Few Ideas for Articles

If you were to publish something to theFUTURISTS today, what would you write about.

Samples of Your Work

We need to get a taste of what you do, how you work, and the type of contribution that we can expect from you. Send us samples of your work: your blog, portfolio/homepage, flickr or youtube account, any news paper clippings/articles, or anything else that demonstrates your abilities.

Fill out the form below to submit your application to become a contributor. There is no closing date for applications, though you should apply as soon as you’re interested and able rather than putting it off. We review all applications and reply to everyone who sends one in, but do give us some time to take a look—we’re pretty busy. Know that we still like you even if we don’t select you.
