How do you spell Rock n’ Roll? After this concert on Monday night I think we gotta start spelling it K-I-N-G-K-H-A-N-&-B-B-Q-S-H-O-W. The dynamic duo from Montreal stormed the stage at Red Room with a minimalistic fervor unmatched since the early days of punk rock. Watching them prance around the stage in ridiculous drag and an acid trippin’ genie outfit, one couldn’t help but feel as if they were witnessing something special. A band like this doesn’t come around very often. If you missed it, don’t worry, we got your ass covered. The energy in the crowd was incredible as these guys busted through their catalogue of bad-ass songs. It was impossible to stand still and the band fed the frenzy, urging the crowd to get wilder and wilder.
I got the opportunity to meet both King Khan and BBQ before they went on. Needless to say I came away from the experience with a giant goofy grin on my face and a noticeable bounce in my step, setting the tone for an inspired mosh pit performance. I was so fucking excited when Swash showed me these photos.
Opening band Those Darlin’s proved to be no slouches either. This trio of deliciously styled ladies and their skinny male drummer (prolly one of the luckiest guys in the world) set the tone for the evening, firing off a powerhouse set positively brimming with garage rock gusto.
